How does clouds form
Water evaporates from ponds, lakes, rivers and oceans into the atmosphere. This is in vapour form and called water vapour. The water vapour rises to higher altitudes. The air pressure at these altitudes are low. As a result the water vapour expands and cools.
The cool water vapour condenses and converts into liquid form. If the conditions are favourable, these water droplets combines with other particles like smoke or dust and forms cloud.
Types of clouds
- Fog is very close to the ground.
- Stratus clouds are found at lower altitudes to the ground and they are nlayered.
- Cirrus clouds are the highest about 7,000 meters and are made of ice crystals.
- Cumulus clouds are puffy with flat bottoms.
